About SATA

The society of Anaesthesiologists of Tanzania (SATA) is a professional organization established after the dissolution of its predecessor The Society of Anaesthesiologists of East Africa (SAEA) which was registered under the societies act (1968) on October 24th 1975. SATA was formed and registered under the Non-Governmental Organization Act on 22nd July 2009. SATA operates and serve as a national professional body for advancement of the specialty of anaesthesiology ensuring the highest standards of anaesthesia and critical care practice in Tanzania. SATA’s operations are governed by the society’s constitution and its’s governing principles

Our Programs

  • SAFE Obstetrics and SAFE Paediatrics

    These programs focus on ensuring safe anaesthesia practices for obstetric and paediatric patients, addressing specific considerations and challenges in these vulnerable populations.

  • MOST (Managing Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma):

    This course equips anaesthesiologists with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage obstetric emergencies and trauma situations, ensuring optimal outcomes for both mothers and infants.

  • MEPA (Medical Emergencies in the Perioperative Setting):

    MEPA provides training on recognizing and managing medical emergencies that may arise in the perioperative setting, enabling anaesthesiologists to respond swiftly and effectively to ensure patient safety.

  • BLS (Basic Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support):

    These courses offer comprehensive training in life-saving techniques for patients of all ages, covering essential skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and defibrillation.

  • EPM (Essential Pain Management):.

    EPM focuses on the assessment and management of acute and chronic pain, equipping anaesthesiologists with the tools and techniques needed to alleviate patient discomfort and improve quality of life.

  • VAST (Voluntary Anaesthesia Services Overseas Training):

    VAST provides opportunities for anaesthesiologists to gain international experience and contribute to healthcare initiatives in underserved regions, promoting global collaboration and capacity building.

  • Facility-Based Mentorships:

    Our mentorship programs offer hands-on guidance and support to anaesthesiologists at various stages of their careers, fostering professional growth, skill development, and peer networking within the specialty.
